iHELIOS

INFRARED HEATING

The iHelios heating system is a significant breakthrough in environmentally friendly space heating technology. This remarkable, wafer-thin heating film can be discreetly located within suspended or exposed ceilings, under floors or in custom-made wall panels, making is completely invisible to the eye. Its simplicity and smart control capabilities offer numerous benefits to domestic customers and a wide range of commercial sectors including, property developers, builders, social and private landlords, architects, SAP assessors, M&E consultants and interior designers, as it can be installed across a wide range of property types.

What makes iHelios heating so special?

It’s totally invisible. It’s truly magical, as other than thermostats, there is no evidence of a heating system at all. No ugly radiators that restrict your living space so you are left with a blank canvas to arrange your rooms as you wish. The iHelios heating system is quick and easy to install, though it must be installed by a fully qualified electrician who has completed their training atthe iHelios Training Academy. The complete system consists of only four components so is simplicity itself. Once installed, there are no moving parts so unlike a boiler or air source heat pump it is completely silent and requires no servicing throughout its lifetime. It comes to you with a 20 year manufacturer’s warranty, though the expected life span of the system is between 35–50 years.

Though there are other manufacturers of radiant heating films, what makes the iHelios system entirely unique is its patented Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) casing and its double insulation Class 2 safety classification. PTC technology has been used by electrical and mechanical engineers for many years as they recognise its ability to make heating systems more reliable, safer and cost-effective than traditional resistance wire electric heaters. Consider PTC heating systems compared to resistant heaters as LED light bulbs are to incandescent bulbs; they have significantly lower energy costs and a longer life. Typically, heating elements use a resistance wire to generate heat. PTC heating elements are made from tiny ceramic stones which have a unique characteristic as semiconductors with properties that can be precisely determined during their design and manufacture. PTC devises do not burn oxygen making them safer and more energy efficient. They cannot overheat and are self-limiting as when their temperature, and consequently the resistance increases, the current flow through the devise decreases, resulting in the maximum operating temperature for the iHelios system set to a safe 54°C.
What makes the iHelios heating system even more remarkable is that it produces instant, healthy, radiant heat, so unlike convector heating, such as radiators, it doesn’t warm the air but the objects in the room. It’s the same feeling you get on a cold day when the sun is shining. That warm, radiant feeling, though with iHelios you have complete control over the temperature of each room. It can take hours for a traditional central heating system to warm a house as it’s warming the air, and we all know, warm air rises, so the warmest part of the room is always the ceiling, which is not at all efficient. That’s not the case with iHelios heating as within minutes you will start to feel its warmth.
